It's not as heavy as it looks... More stuff for the goodie bags I'll meet you to set up the start line at 6:00 am... The Pittsfild H.S. Girls X-C relay teams camping at the Bird's Yum Yum..... We like Dunkin! American Cancer Society at the Expo Bring on the Relay teams.... Marathon Number Pick-up The Toasted Oldies Relay (Brian - on right - accidently ran the whole marathon...) Marathon Store The post-race party looks like more fun than the course... So as long as you keep your knees straight, you'll set a PR! Hummmm.... Why do we have 300 marathoners with the same bib number? BFF... The New England Runner Brain Trust Cardi's Furniture's Lounger with FTC Tester... Pre-Race Reception at the Quarterdeck Russ Pelletier, Relay Director, shows off his bullhorn prowess ...and more Pre-Race Reception Cheers' Eddie Doyle tries to explain to the Hawk how to get to the second relay exchange "Dunkin' Donuts wants you to try this new coffee flavor..." The Falmouth H.S. Sailing Team erecting the start line bridge It's time to boogie, the New England Runner Post-Race party can wait! The K-Kids at your service... Runners being piped to the start line Joan and Carolyn getting ready to run the relay. But they're on the Marathon Committee and are supposed to be working the race... Are those ties appropriate for a corporate board room? The bike patrol gets ready to monitor the course Course Director Nicole Depferd in position to lead the race New England Runner's Bob Fitzgerald adept firing of the cannon gets the marathon underway. ... and they're off! ... and heading down Main Street ... and rounding the corner off main and onto Shore Street. The first ¼ mile is easy! Runners pass by the head of Falmouth Harbor ... and head for Falmouth Heights at mile 2 Sumner Fletcher running strongly in the early miles ... and then comes the pack Marathoners and relay runners working together Captain Janet Kelley of Fitzy's Frisky Felines conquers the first hill in a fog A foggy first relay exchange... Cheerleaders at mile 7 Musical diversion in Davisville No tired runners here... Mommy's pretty lucky to have these guys for cheerleaders! Mathew Thorsten and Dean Egan cruise through the misty bogs at 8 miles Are they coming??? ... and more music -- this time at 8 miles Grady Tibboel, Joshua Cordeira, and Emily Kruger crossing the bogs.. Bogs, mist and runners Sandy Parkinson and Jim Murphy on a Sunday jaunt... The runners passing through the 2nd relay exchange at 9 miles A pack of runners working together on Thomas Landers Road at 11½ miles 3-time champion Heidi Westerling paces Jamie Kreider and Justin Ryea approaching 13 miles ...and more musical moments at Route 28-A and Thomas Landers Road (12.9 miles) Derrick Jackson and Christine Wirth turn onto Route 28-A A "Mixed Fish" en route to first place mixed relay team finish Kathy McLaughlin and Brian Shacter (who doesn't realize yet that he's about to run the whole marathon) at 13 miles. Marathoners and relayers descend into Woods Hole at the 4th Relay Exchange Flower power triumphs "TBA" passes the baton Eric Lemieux (111) is paced by a member of "CSU Yinyang" Two relay teams from the Pittsfield HS Girls' Cross Country Team run together in Woods Hole Another musical moment -- this time in Woods Hole Umpah, umpah... 2008 Marathon Champion Mike Fisher in flight at Nobska Point (22 miles)! Heidi runs alone at Nobska Former two-time CCM Champion Mary Lynn Currier on her way to a 2nd place finish in the Women's Division and 1st Master Overall (Men and Women!) Kristine Bunker of the "New Balance Harriers" approaches Nobska Light Runners pause for refreshment at the 23 mile waterstop and are serinaded by one other than... Elvis! ... Are we having fun yet? Judi Keller and Maggi Yates of the 60+ Women's team "Spring Chickens" All is in readiness at the finish line Mike Fisher -- 2008 Champion! Runners approach the finish line to the cheers of the crowd Team Ratone from the front... ...and rear Daniel Rabosky within seconds of finishing in 3:11:31 "Shake and Bake" and "The Fireballs" The crowd at the finish line watches for the runners Four-time Women's Champion Heidi Westerling and an old guy from the Marathon Committee # 100, Bill Brown, finishing his 100th marathon with his friends who joined his celebration. Jason Michaud and friend who ran the race with him What a day! Medals waiting for finishers Chip removal crew at work... Christine Wirth looks as good at the finish as she did at 13! Thank you! If I bent ove now to take that chip off, I'd never straighten up again!! It's nice to be finished! Medal and space blanket.... symbols of accomplishment And now for our sponsors... I don't think I want to run another step right at this point... But this massage sure feels good... ...and now for some pasta! David Eggermann relaxes after his 4:19:36 marathon at the Sysco Post-Race Meal "Fitzy's Frisky Felines" -- 1st Place Women's Team -- 3:12:54 Champions Heidi Westerling and Mike Fisher endure Race Director Courtney Bird's comments at the awards ceremony And now it's time for the New England Runner Post-Race Party! ...with great music by the famous BaHa Brothers ...and bad dancing by the Race Director Litchfield's Billy Nellor being coached on the finer points of the 2-step shuffle by Ann Piccolo and Doris Beatty ...while others need no such coaching. ...and marathon day concludes with dancing into the night.
