Cape Cod Marathon Announces Mayflower Wind as 2021 Title Sponsor

FALMOUTH and BOSTON, MA, AUGUST 20, 2021The Falmouth Running Club today announced  that Mayflower Wind, the developer of an offshore wind project to be located over 30 miles  south of Martha’s Vineyard and 20 miles south of Nantucket, is the Title Sponsor for its 2021

Cape Cod Marathon Weekend. This is the 44th running of the Cape Cod Marathon, produced by  the Falmouth Running Club, which will be held during the weekend of October 30-31, 2021, in  Falmouth, Massachusetts.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Falmouth Running Club for this historic and exciting event,”  said Michael Brown, CEO of Mayflower Wind. “The Cape Cod Marathon has a long history of  welcoming not only elite runners, but runners and families of all ages and abilities. The  inclusiveness, FRC’s support of environmental and community initiatives, plus the beautiful  coastal environment setting means this is sure to be a great event for participants and  spectators alike.”

Brown, a dedicated runner himself, noted that several members of the Mayflower Wind team  are planning to participate in this year’s events.

“We are excited to be partnering with Mayflower Wind as the Title Sponsor of the 2021 Cape  Cod Marathon,” said Jack Afarian, President of the Falmouth Running Club and Race Director of  the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend. “Over the years, we have maintained the  “Cape Cod Feel” of our event and to this day most of our vendors and sponsors are located in  Falmouth and the surrounding Cape Cod area. We also are dedicated to protecting the local  environment with our composting and recycling efforts as we move toward our goal of being a  “Zero Waste” event. We believe that Mayflower Wind’s values align well with ours and we look  forward to working with them to make our event even better and to continue to support the  Falmouth Community”.

Mayflower Wind was also a sponsor this year’s 49th running of the Falmouth Road Race. The  Town of Falmouth is playing a major role in Massachusetts’ clean energy future as the land base  for Mayflower Wind’s onshore electrical infrastructure and connection to the regional grid.

The Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend offers a race for everyone with a full  marathon, a marathon relay, a half marathon, 5K, and a free Kids Fun Run, as well as the Clam  Chowdah Challenge that totals 39.3 miles over two days.

Staged in late October at the height of fall foliage season, the course runs along Vineyard Sound  and beautiful coastal roads on the Cape. Registration is now open with low pricing through  August 31, 2021. To register please visit capecodmarathon.com

All proceeds from the weekend events go to the Falmouth Running Club to support their youth  running programs, scholarships, environmental initiatives, and community events. For more  information visit capecodmarathon.com

About the Falmouth Running Club

The Falmouth Running Club is composed of individuals and families who participate in and  support running, road racing, and walking. Our personal goals include athletic achievement,  personal satisfaction, and enjoyment. Our club seeks to encourage youth as well as adults to  run and walk for competition, recreation, fitness, and pleasure. Our three road races have been  in existence since the 1970s, and a trail race was added to the roster in 2014. Every year the  FRC is able to make substantial donations to local charities. We also help out with a number of  other community volunteer projects such as a clean-up of a well-traveled local street in the  spring. For more information visit www.falmouthrunningclub.org.
